Baltimore Orioles Rumors: O’s Should go after Paul Konerko

Paul Konerko

Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Whether you think the Baltimore Orioles need to wave goodbye to their chance at MLB postseason play or think they just aren’t clicking, one thing is certain. They are not making the grade right now and need to change something if they hope to play better. Enter the fact that Chicago White Sox veteran slugger Paul Konerko has cleared waivers and you have your answer. Orioles’ office staff; go get Konerko and watch this team begin to climb in the right direction.

There are several players that have cleared waivers who could possibly fill a role for the Orioles but they are not all necessarily available while Konerko most certainly is. The price will be much lower than it would have been at the trade deadline because there are more players available. Back at the deadline the White Sox has the market cornered which is why they asked so much and received very little. The Orioles could get a veteran bat for their DH spot and really get a big boost for the offense.

Funny enough, offense has been the Orioles strength all season long but now it is clear that it is not strong enough. The Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays along with the other wildcard teams are running away from them. They need to do something very quickly and that something needs to involve bringing in Konerko. Even if there are others available such as Justin Morneau, Konerko’s experience makes him the better choice to fill the specific void that the Orioles have.
