Whoever the best player is at each MLB position, it is a title that has to be earned. One doesn’t just walk onto the field one day and get the title of the best anything. St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina however is the best. He is the absolute best all-around catcher in Major League Baseball and he is proving each and every game he plays. He went down with a leg injury that isn’t exactly easy for a catcher but has done nothing but provide reasons for his title as the best in the game since his return.

The Cardinals showed how great he is when they slumped terribly in his absence. It isn’t just the offensive stats that make him the best, it’s the way he handles the pitching staff. Just the other day you could tell when Adam Wainwright finished his complete game there was one man he wanted to hug more than any other and it was Molina. Molina just grabbed Wainwright’s head, rubbed it a little as if to say, “That’s my boy! Way to shut ‘em down Waino!”

He garners the respect of his peers and his teammates. Defensively he is one of the best in the game. Offensively he has now regained the batting average lead over Chris Johnson of the Atlanta Braves; yep he’s the best there too. There should be little doubt as to who the MVP of the Cardinals is. I think they have the most standout MVP of any team in all of baseball. They might depend too heavily on him based on what happened when they lost him for a while. But as long as he is playing, that doesn’t matter one bit. With Yadi behind the plate, the Cardinals are a World Series threat in a serious way. Without him they’re a first round out. He’s just that good.
