Brandon Beachy Injury Scary For Atlanta Braves’ Rotation

Earlier this week, Kris Medlen walked off of the mound with an apparent right forearm strain. Now, Brandon Beachy left his last start with what is being called tightness in his right biceps, according to David O’Brein on Twitter.

However, this injury could have been seen from earlier in his start. According to multiple sources, Beachy was only throwing 87-88 mph with his fastball when he exited the game. That fact should be just as concerning to the Atlanta Braves, seeing that he usually throws in the low 90s and tops out around 94.

After Beachy left the game, he told media that the discomfort he felt was different from what he felt last season and that he was not concerned about his elbow being inflamed.

Beachy has a history of arm problems, having gotten hurt midway through 2012 and requiring Tommy John surgery. That season, he was one of the best pitchers in baseball until his injury, posting a 2.00 ERA in 13 starts. When he returned the next season, he only pitched in five games before going back under the knife to have some surgical cleanup.

In those five starts, he gave up 15 earned runs in 30 innings and gave up 27 total hits. 2014 was supposed to be the season that he showed the Braves he could make 30 starts and be a top-of-the-rotation pitcher.

It’s now difficult for the Braves, seeing that they aren’t sure if Medlen and Beachy are seriously injured or not. Medlen’s MRI results will be released on Tuesday and Beachy will be further evaluated also. If either, or both of the pitchers are seriously hurt, expect the Braves to make a free agent signing within the next week to 10 days. I just hope that both of them are ready for Opening Day and the team doesn’t have to make that decision.
