MLB Rumors: Top 5 Landing Spots For Aramis Ramirez In 2015

5 Possible Teams for Aramis Ramirez
Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

The NL Central has been the home of Aramis Ramirez for his entire career. Most of that time has been with the Chicago Cubs, but the last three years have been with the Milwaukee Brewers. Most likely, Ramirez is about to sign his last contract. He has made an estimated $133 million over his career, so where he signs could be about comfort and not money.

Toronto Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos is going to be active this year and Ramirez could be a target. Brett Lawrie's injury concerns are mounting, but even if healthy, he might be called upon to fill the bigger second-base hole. Ramirez could also function as a designated hitter.

Ben Cherington and the Boston Red Sox could invest $60 million dollars in acquisitions this offseason as they try to regain form. They may be looking for a switch-hitting or left-handed third baseman to balance their lineup. Ramirez is a candidate for designated hitter as well, and would earn the most in Boston.

Third base is the only infield spot that Arizona and Dave Stewart will be looking to fill. The position may be second or third on the priority list, and youngster Jake Lamb could be given a change on Opening Day. Rumors have Pablo Sandoval as the Diamondbacks' top choice, but Ramirez would be solid.

There are a lot of factors at work in Washington. They could move Anthony Rendon to second base and put Ryan Zimmerman at first permanently. If the team thinks they can score Ramirez, those moves make more sense. Zimmerman could also be part of a trade to bring in a second baseman, and then there is no need for a third baseman.

Other teams will inquire about Ramirez, but he is comfortable in Milwaukee and still wants to play third base. Ramirez has not slowed down defensively, and will probably get a two-year deal between $11 and 13 million per year with the Brewers. That should be plenty for Ramirez to stay in Milwaukee.
