With the World Series about to begin, the San Francisco Giants are doing everything possible to give their team an advantage. Unluckily for pop singer Lorde, her hit song ‘Royals’ does not sit well with Giants fans, and for that reason, two San Francisco radio stations announced that they won’t be playing her song on the radio until the series is over.

“Our listeners told us to do it, so we did,” KOIT program director Brian Figula told viewers on the station’s website. “As of 4 p.m. today we’ve removed ‘Royals’ from our playlist…Go Giants, beat the Royals!”

Listeners of San Francisco radio stations were irate when they heard the song on the air waves, so they made their voices heard and got the change they wanted.

Now in all honesty, a song is not going to dictate the winner in this Word Series matchup, but some fans out there are superstitious when it comes to their favorite sports teams. The Giants have a chance to win the World Series for the third time in the last five years, so it’s not like they haven’t been there before. On the other hand, the Kansas City Royals are searching for their first title since 1985, and they have the pressure on to win it all after a Cinderella-like run to get there.

Believe it or not, Lorde actually cited Royals’ legend George Brett as inspiration for the song. She saw a picture of him in a magazine and used it as her motivation to write the song. Brett, in response to hearing about her inspiration, sent a signed jersey to her and now it’s safe to say that Lorde is on team Royals.

This ban of Lorde’s song isn’t anything serious. I find it pretty funny that this has drawn so much interest, but that’s sports for you. Every little advantage goes a long way, and I guess the Giants and their fans will take every chance they get to improve their chances.

For those wondering about the song’s popularity in Kansas City, well let’s just say that the radio stations there are playing the song once an hour, go figure.
