5 MLB Teams That Should Call Joe Maddon About Managing

The Tampa Bay Rays did everything they could to sign manager Joe Maddon to a third contract extension, but unfortunately, the man who brought the team its lone World Series berth is moving on. There’s no say as to where Maddon will manage next, but there’s no denying that job offers will be flying at him left and right. Here are five teams that should call him immediately about managing in 2015.

Even though the Minnesota Twins are looking into Paul Molitor as Ron Gardenhire’s successor, which would be an excellent choice for them, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to give Maddon a call. The Twins have endured four straight seasons with 90-plus losses. That’s a tough pill to swallow after back-to-back AL Central titles. Maddon would find a way to get the organization back on track, and it wouldn’t take multiple seasons to do so either.

Who wouldn’t want to manage a team with as much historical significance as the Chicago White Sox? Inconsistency since 2009 has led to two straight dismal seasons. The White Sox know they need to make some drastic changes soon if they want to become relevant again, but they continue to struggle with the decision-making process. The truth is they need to bring in an experienced manager to give the players a boost of confidence.

Staying within the division might be the smartest move Maddon makes for the simple reason of familiarity. Sure, the Blue Jays finished with a winning record for only the second time in five years, but that doesn’t mean changes can’t be made. Giving Maddon control of the team might be the smartest decision Toronto makes, and it could even propel them to the top of the most competitive division in baseball.

The Miami Marlins are about as close to the Rays as Maddon is going to get, which could be good or bad. It would be good for the organization because there’s a good chance Maddon will be able to put the Marlins back on the map. At the same time, I can’t imagine he will want his next gig to be with another team that struggles to find a fan base, which forces management to cut spending when it comes to players.

The Chicago Cubs just got a top new priority for the offseason as Maddon is a must have for the organization. The good news is there are already rumors circulating that there could be a common interest between the two parties. The combination of a solid executive team, talented players and a deep farm system is too good for Maddon to pass up. In fact, don’t be surprised if this is where he lands in 2015.
