Top 5 Landing Spots For Torii Hunter

After the Detroit Tigers were swept out of the ALDS by the Baltimore Orioles nearly three weeks ago, 18-year MLB veteran Torii Hunter revealed that he is considering retirement. Hunter has yet to make a final decision, however, and he is reportedly willing to return for another season under the right circumstances. Without further ado, here are five teams that may be interested in employing the nine-time Gold Glove award-winner in 2015.

Hunter began his career with the Minnesota Twins, spending 11 seasons with the team before leaving to sign a five-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels. After trading Josh Willingham, the Twins could find themselves in the market for a corner outfielder this winter, meaning that a reunion with Hunter could conceivably be in the cards. It would certainly be a nice story to see Hunter's career come full-circle as well.

4. Chicago Cubs

Part of the reason Hunter continues playing is because of his desire to win a World Series, something that has eluded him for nearly two decades. Therefore, some may have a hard time considering the Chicago Cubs, a team that finished in last place in the NL Central in 2014, as one of his top suitors. The Cubs, however, are reportedly looking to boost their outfield and add veteran leadership. Hunter could certainly help out in those departments.

After missing the postseason by a whisker, the Seattle Mariners are said to be looking for an extra bat this winter to help bolster their offense. Some have speculated players such as Victor Martinez, Nelson Cruz, Melky Cabrera and Adam LaRoche may be on the team's wish list. One could also see the M's being interested in Hunter as a DH or a corner outfielder -- and they could offer him the chance to play for a contender as well.

2. Baltimore Orioles

With Nelson Cruz and Nick Markakis' futures with the Baltimore Orioles up in the air, the O's may need to plug a rather large hole in their lineup should one or both of them depart via free agency. Like the Mariners, the Orioles may be able to offer Hunter a chance to DH or play in their outfield, and they could also give him a chance to play for a winner. Hunter might appreciate playing in the hitter-friendly confines of Camden Yards, too.

1. Detroit Tigers

Hunter has reportedly stated that his preference is to remain with the Tigers, something which still seems entirely possible. Sure, the Tigers' corner outfield spots appear to be jam-packed, but there are also many uncertainties. For example, Tyler Collins and Steven Moya may need more time in the minors, and Andy Dirks' future with the Tigers seems uncertain. Signing Hunter to a one-year deal may still be a good move for Detroit.
