Arguably the most entertaining part of the MLB calendar is about to start, as the Hot Stove is beginning to boil. With that come tons of rumors about where players will be heading for the 2015 season. One player that will surely come up in tons of rumors is starting pitcher Max Scherzer. Where will the 2013 Cy Young land this offseason?

Well, one place he should strongly consider signing is the Chicago Cubs.

Yes the Cubs haven’t made the playoffs since the 2008 season while Scherzer’s former team, the Detroit Tigers, have been playoff mainstays and contenders for the past four seasons. But he should strongly consider leaving the Motor City for the Windy City.

Things are looking up in Chicago, as the Cubs are under new management after hiring Joe Maddon from the Tampa Bay Rays. Maddon was a big reason for the turn around in Tampa Bay, and should be able to do the same with the Cubs. In Tampa Bay money restraints kept the team from getting much talent that wasn’t homegrown on the roster. With Theo Epstein running the show, the Cubs are essentially a bottomless pit for money and will be players with plenty of the biggest named free agents.

For a pitcher like Scherzer having a powerful offense backing you is always intriguing. With the Cubs, he would be walking into one of the brightest futures lineup wise in the majors. Already with Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro entrenched at the major league level, Cubs fans also saw what the future could hold with outfielder Jorge Soler and middle infielder Javier Baez.

There is plenty more talent in the pipeline on the way as well, as power hitting prospect Kris Bryant, middle infielder Addison Russell and outfielder Albert Almora project a bright future offensively with plenty of runs.

Scherzer has also never been considered the best pitcher of a staff. Even in the process of winning the Cy Young in 2013, many people considered Justin Verlander to truly be the ace of the team. Then in 2014, the Tigers had Verlander and added David Price, adding further debate as to which pitcher was the true ace.

On the Cubs, Scherzer would be the unquestioned ace of the staff. Every athlete has a little bit of an ego, and being the ace of an up-and-coming team would fulfill that. The Cubs have a bright future, and with Maddon managing things should come together sooner than later. Scherzer should take advantage of the opportunity given to him, as he will be an ace of a team with a massive contract. What more could he want?
