With so much going right for the Baltimore Orioles last season, it appears they are eager to get rid of the one person who did not pan out.
Starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez’s 6-9 record and 4.73 earned run average is enough for the Orioles to seriously consider any trade offers that come their way. In fact, with the organization eager to put right-hander Kevin Gausman in the rotation, do not be surprised if Baltimore is the one who becomes active on the trade market and finds a suitor for Jimenez.
It may be difficult to find a team that wants to take on the next three years of his four-year, $50 million contract. For that reason, the Orioles would most likely have to take on some of the money in order for a deal to go down. Of course, that is fine by them considering there simply is no room for a below-average Jimenez on the roster.
One team in particular that is rumored to have interest in the right-hander is one of his former teams. The Cleveland Indians know how good he can be on the mound, which is why they would be willing to have another go around with him.
Jimenez posted the second best season of his career in 2013 when he had a 13-9 record, 3.30 ERA and 194 strikeouts in 32 starts. Of course, the Indians also know how poorly the veteran can play, as evidence of his career-low 17 losses and 5.40 ERA in 2012.
It is too early to tell if a trade between the two ball clubs will happen, but the fact that there is interest on both sides certainly means it could occur.
