Arizona Diamondbacks 2015 Position Preview: Starting Pitchers

In 2014, the Arizona Diamondbacks finished the season with an MLB-worst record of 64-98. The D'Backs have now made quite a few changes, and things may actually be looking up this year. Sure, they are off to an 0-1 start and will have a tough road ahead of them in the NL West, but they should still be a bit better than they were a season ago. So, without further ado, here is a look at the starting rotation the D'Backs decided to break camp with.

Still only 22 years old, former first-round draft pick Archie Bradley had a fantastic spring, going 3-2 with a 1.61 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP over 22.1 innings of work. When the D'Backs traded Trevor Cahill to the Atlanta Braves, it created an opening for Bradley to slide into the rotation.

4. Chase Anderson

Now 27 years of age, Chase Anderson had a decent rookie campaign last season, going 9-7 with a 4.01 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. He should be a solid middle-to-back-end of the rotation starter for the D'Backs in 2015.

3. Jeremy Hellickson

Acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays this offseason, Jeremy Hellickson was the winner of the AL Rookie of the Year award back in 2011, but he is coming off of a season in which he went only 1-5 with a 4.52 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP over 63.2 innings of work. Soon to turn just 28 years old, Hellickson could give this rotation a major boost if he can rediscover some of his early-career success.

2. Rubby De La Rosa

Acquired from the Boston Red Sox over the offseason, Rubby De La Rosa may be a pleasant surprise this year. Although he has gone only 8-15 with a 4.34 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP over his career thus far, De La Rosa is still only 26 years old and has a fastball that can reach the upper-90s, so he certainly has the talent and potential to do well.

1. Josh Collmenter

Named the D'Backs' Opening Day starter, Josh Collmenter surrendered five earned runs over 4.2 innings of work against the San Francisco Giants on Monday, which was simply too much for Arizona to overcome. Nevertheless, Collmenter had a great season last year, going 11-9 with a 3.46 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP, and he should do a decent job holding down the No. 1 spot while Patrick Corbin and Bronson Arroyo remain on the sidelines.
