5 Biggest Kansas City Royals Rumors You Need to Know About Right Now

I already feel a strange sense of journalistic guilt for the widespread lack of answers to the questions I'm about to bring up here, but it's just the nature of the beast for this point in the MLB season. The Kansas City Royals, and presumably any other MLB team, have already inspired rumors, debates and conversations through less than a dozen regular season games. They may be vague at this early stage, but here are five noteworthy Royals rumors.

If new lefty reliever Franklin Morales struggles, as he did all through Spring Training, will KC bring up rookie phenom Brandon Finnegan? Newly signed lefty Troy Patton is still serving an 80-game suspension for failing a test for amphetamines last November, and another once-intriguing option Brian Flynn will miss 3-5 months due to a torn lat muscle. Could Finnegan be the best option, or should KC let him continue his development as a starter?

Mark Polishuck of MLBTradeRumors.com reports that KC is close to their limit for this season's bonus pool for the international signing period. They could stay under by trading to make a bit more room, which would allow them to spend over $300,000 on a player in the next two periods. Since KC found success in paying less - specifically, just $28,000 for current ace Yordano Ventura, nothing indicates an effort to stay under the limit in 2015.

Let's say Finnegan stays in the minors and looks ready later this season - does that mean KC adds him to the big-league rotation, and does that make Jason Vargas trade-bait? Could Kris Medlen return to health in the latter half and similarly jeopardize Jeremy Guthrie's future in KC? Royals second baseman Omar Infante was already involved in trade rumors in the offseason, so what happens if Christian Colon looks great in KC's infield?

The Royals are owners of the most team-friendly contract in baseball with Salvador Perez's insane five-year, $7 million deal. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported on the 10th that KC was open to the idea of restructuring his deal, and even empathized with him about how one-sized the contract is. Beyond being perhaps the best young catcher in baseball, Salvy is a pillar of positive attitude and likability, so signing him long(-er)-term sounds great.

Left fielder and Platinum Glove award winner Alex Gordon is KC's most valuable, most reliable and highest-played player. Could he really be playing for another team soon? Gordo publicly indicated that he'll exercise his 2016 option and become a free agent at the end of this season. Will KC re-sign him, let him go after 2015, or could they even consider trading him before the season ends? As a fan, being patient about this one won't be easy.
