5 Biggest Boston Red Sox Rumors You Need To Know About Right Now

Boston Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington has not obtained a lot of success over the past two seasons. He is actually the main reason why the Red Sox have struggled ever since the 2013 World Series. Case in point: after losing Jon Lester to free agency this offseason and seeing how much the rotation scuffled last year, Cherington made signing Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez his priority instead of fixing the pitching staff.

At one point in time, Jackie Bradley Jr. was considered to be the Red Sox center fielder of the future. Apparently, his true ceiling is being what's called a Quad-A player, which is a prospect who is too good for the minor leagues but can never put it all together in the major leagues. The Red Sox were so concerned that they offered Bradley to the Mariners for a 29-year-old journeyman pitcher, Charlie Furbush, during the offseason.

Eduardo Rodriguez is considered to be one of the Red Sox' top pitching prospects, and he could find himself wearing a major league uniform and pitching in Fenway Park within the next month. There are two reasons why this rumor makes sense. The first is because the Red Sox' rotation has been absolutely atrocious this year and needs some help. The second would be to showcase him to the Philadelphia Phillies for a trade involving Cole Hamels.

The Red Sox have been enamored with Cuban players in recent years. Rusney Castillo, Yoan Moncada and Carlos Mesa are all players from Cuba who have signed with the Red Sox over the last two years. According to reports, the Red Sox are going to add another to the collection in utility player Yoilan Cerce. The Red Sox view Cerce as another Brock Holt-type who can play multiple positions, but he brings the speed element that Holt lacks.

Rusney Castillo has all the tools to be a bona fide superstar, but he needs to learn to stay healthy first. Castillo has dealt with four separate minor injuries since he signed with Boston, and those injuries have kept him from having an impact on the Red Sox. He seems to be recovering well from a rolled ankle and is rumored to be called up in early June to help fix the team's right field issues.

Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval has been tearing it up from the left side of the plate, batting .366 against right-handers, with a.443 OBP and five home runs. Unfortunately, he is batting .269 on the season and his OBP is only .338. Wondering how that's possible? Sandoval is currently 2-for-41 when batting from the right-side against lefties. That's a staggering number and enough to warrant conversation about ending his switch-hitting ways.
