No one outside of the organization thought the Milwaukee Brewers would compete for a postseason berth this year, but the atrocity that has become the 2015 MLB season is flat-out embarrassing. Unfortunately, it appears to only be getting worse for the Brewers as the injuries continue to pile up, with the latest one being to starting pitcher Wily Peralta.

Peralta was cruising through four innings during Friday’s start against the Atlanta Braves before being removed from the contest with tightness in his left ribcage. Considering Milwaukee had posted a 10-0 lead at that point in the game, it was certainly a bit concerning seeing Peralta leave. Still, there was plenty of optimism it was nothing more than a precautionary move for the Brewers.

Regrettably, the tightness turned out to be a strained oblique, which means Peralta will remain on the 15-day disabled list for the next four to six weeks.

“It surprised me. I didn’t think it was going to be that [bad], but it’s more than they expected. I didn’t think I’d be on the DL,” Peralta said, according to ESPN. “Four to six weeks is a long time to be out. It’s tough, but it is what it is and I have to move forward and help them try to finish the season strong.”

In 79 career games over a span of two-plus seasons, the 26-year-old has never spent time on the disabled list. That means that his streak of back-to-back seasons of 32 starts will fall with him missing as much as a month and a half of the season.

Even though pitcher David Goforth was promoted from Triple-A Colorado Springs to take Peralta’s spot on the roster, the Brewers have yet to announce who will actually take his spot in the starting rotation. As of right now, it appears the most likely solution is removing Michael Blazek from the bullpen and allowing him to make his first career start.
