Kansas City Royals fans witnessed their fair share of drama in the month of May, but a wholly different kind of drama is constantly taking place behind the scenes. Here are five of the biggest KC-related rumors right now.

The Royals extended Yordano Ventura's contract out to a five-year, million deal, and word spread that they wish to do the same with other players before this season ends. Kelvin Herrera's name is brought up often in these discussions, and CBS Sports' Jon Heyman suggests that the Royals would also like to further extend Salvador Perez's deal, although it may not happen until the offseason.

Omar Infante is currently the only glaring hole in an otherwise balanced lineup, as is evident from his .224 average, .315 SLG% and .549 OPS. Utility infielder Christian Colon is currently hitting .286 with a .681 OPS in 68 big-league at bats this year. Skipper Ned Yost told the press just yesterday that he's sticking with Omar, but how long can this go on before a change is considered?

3. Which other Royals pitchers could contribute in 2015?

Despite some up's and down' through the first two months of the season, the Royals have plenty of pitching options for which to be very hopeful. Kris Medlen is rehabbing at a strong pace, veteran Joe Blanton looks impressive coming out of the bullpen, and even once highly-touted John Lamb is making huge strides with the Triple-A Storm Chasers this season. If the Royals' rotation needs help in the latter half, that help could come from within.

Heyman also wrote that Alex Gordon was unlikely to pick up his player option for 2016, meaning he'll hit the open market next year as the best left fielder on the planet. That is, unless the Royals can make a deal happen before other teams come offering upwards of 0 million for a multi-year deal. Whether KC should or can spend the money to retain Gordon will be debated with vigor until he signs on the dotted line somewhere.

Numerous noteworthy starters could move before the deadline, and before the last two weeks, KC's rotation was objectively the most suspect part of the team. A move to acquire Johnny Cueto or Cole Hamels would be a surprise, but perhaps picking up Mat Latos or Aaron Harang would be more feasible. Alternatively, KC could be sellers at the break in order to get value out of its arms.
