5 Players the Milwaukee Brewers Must Trade Before the 2015 Deadline

It will come as no surprise that the Milwaukee Brewers will be sellers at the MLB trade deadline. The biggest reason being the Brewers currently have the second-worst record in all of baseball. Plus, Milwaukee has made it clear they plan to rebuild the roster in the offseason. For that reason, the Brewers would be wise to trade these five players to get the most value prior to July 31.

Kyle Lohse is on pace for one of the worst statistical seasons of his MLB career. At 3-8 with a 6.44 ERA and a pitiful .295 opponent batting average, Lohse has clearly lost the will to win on a terrible Brewers team. With free agency on the horizon, Milwaukee must find a suitor that can use his 6.67 strikeouts per nine innings in order to get a prospect or two in return.

Matt Garza is in a similar boat as Lohse in that he is putting together the worst season of his career. In 14 games (13 starts), he has posted a 4-8 record with a 5.07 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. The good news for Milwaukee is Garza still has two more years on his contract plus a vesting option for 2018. That means there is a chance the Brewers could get more for him since he will not be rented for just the second half of this season.

If there is one player Milwaukee has to deal by the deadline, it is third baseman Aramis Ramirez. The veteran announced he planned to retire at the end of the 2015 season, which means the Brewers can’t allow him to finish with a team on the bottom. Ramirez deserves to play for a contender, and more importantly, he has power and run production capabilities. Milwaukee won’t get much for him, but it’s what needs to be done.

Francisco Rodriguez is one of the lone bright spots on the Brewers this season. In 24 appearances, he has a 1.13 ERA and 26 strikeouts. More noticeably, he is 13-for-13 in save opportunities. With one year left on his contract and a club option for 2017, there are plenty of teams that will part with decent prospects to have K-Rod’s arm down the stretch and in the playoffs. As much as it would be hard to see him go, it’s a necessary move.

Where was Adam Lind last year? The first baseman is the only thing the Brewers got right in 2015, as signing him was pure brilliance. Once can only assume Milwaukee is going to pick up his club option for next season. However, if there are teams willing to inquire about him, the Brewers aren’t exactly in a position to turn down quality trade offers. Milwaukee could get a lot for him, which is why I wouldn’t be surprised to see him dealt.
