2015 Boston Red Sox Should Not Be Blown Up

Ramirez and Sandoval

Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Red Sox have driven nearly everyone crazy with their inconsistent play so far this season. It seems as though for every time they look like they are about to turn the corner, they take a giant step backwards. It has been this way all season and people are starting to get impatient. This is after all the biggest payroll in franchise history and that is because of the signings of Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval.

What some have been mentioning lately is blowing up the team just like 2013 and getting rid of some of these overpaid and underwhelming players. There is just one problem with that. It won’t work. Boston will not find another team to get rid of these contracts, like the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Ramirez hit the cover off the ball in April then got hurt in May and played through his injury. He is back to stinging the cover off the ball. He has been horrible defensively, but that is no surprise. Sandoval has had some issues defensively but lately he has been on a nine-game hitting streak. No, these players have not performed completely up to their capabilities, but neither has the rest of the team.

We are just two months into new contracts for both of these players. This isn’t a Carl Crawford situation like when he looked completely lost in Boston, was injured and became a shell of a player.

In the third year, it would be possible to decide if players are a bad fit. However, it is way too early to tell. Other free agents will think twice about playing for the Red Sox if they know that as soon as they struggle a bit, out the door they go.

Red Sox Nation, let’s be a little patient with these guys.
