The Los Angeles Dodgers are a team built to win now. They have been the favorites to win the pennant all year, but don’t have a chance to catch the St. Louis Cardinals for the top seed. With the San Francisco Giants breathing down the Dodgers' neck, here are five call-ups who could make all the difference in whether they can hold on to the National League West.

Ian Thomas is a swing man, switching between starting and relieving. His role would be similar to Joe Wieland’s this September, a lefty specialist who could throw longer in low-leverage situation to save the other arms.

Joe Wieland is a classic September call-up. In the minors, he has been a starter, but that’s not where he fits in with the big league club. He’s a relief pitcher from the right side who you want to use only against righties.

3. Mike Bolsinger

Mike Bolsinger got a cup of coffee earlier this year as a fill-in starter and was steady. Filling in a few more times would be helpful. Just having his arm around for emergency long relief would be a much-needed boost.

2. Scott Schebler

Scott Schebler played in one game in June, getting one single after three at-bats. He has shown decent (not great) power. He’s the kind of player you want to have as an extra pinch-hitter in September. With the injuries in the OF, Schebler could be a difference-maker down the stretch.

1. Zach Lee

Zach Lee is a starting pitcher who would be an emergency option in September. He would only see playing time in a blowout or if a starter got injured early. He should get called up, but might never make it into a game. If he did make it into a game for an injured pitcher, it might be the most important game of his life. Of all the call-ups, he can go the longest.
