During the seventh inning of yesterday’s Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays Game 5, Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin went to toss the ball out to his pitcher, just like any catcher would after any pitch, but he inadvertently hit Shin-Soo Choo‘s bat and the ball ricocheted away, allowing Rougned Odor to score the go-ahead run for the Rangers as he scampered home from third.

You can watch the controversial play here.

Admittedly, it’s a play that baseball fans never see and it seems no one really knew the rules, at least the ones on the Blue Jays’ side. After the umpires allowed the run to count, as the rule clearly states, Rogers Centre turned into one of the ugliest scenes I’ve ever witnessed. Fans began throwing things onto the field, being belligerent and in the case of one moron, hitting a baby with beer spray after he chucked his beer towards the field.

Thankfully, the drunken idiot was arrested and charged with mischief.
