San Francisco Giants' Top Five Prospects Heading Into 2016 Season

The San Francisco Giants are one of the true elite organizations in all of baseball. While they may be a notch behind the Saint Louis Cardinals in the National League for getting players to be big league ready, they are light years ahead of the rest of their division. Here are five elite players that could contribute to the San Francisco Giants as early as 2016.

Injuries have slowed the progress of Andrew Suarez down. But after a full year of good health, Suarez could be helping in the pen in 2016 and the rotation in 2017. The Giants could push each of those back a season, so that he is fully matured when he reaches San Francisco.

4. Christian Arroyo

A few weeks ago Christian Arroyo looked like the heir apparent to Brandon Crawford at shortstop. Now he looks like the third baseman playing to Crawford's right in the second half of the contract extension Crawford just signed. In either case, Arroyo is a classic Giant infielder, he's just above average across the board. Whether he ends up bumping Crawford from short or getting bumped to third or second himself, Arroyo will contribute soon.

3. Cody Hall

Cody Hall is a classic minor league reliever. He had an average college career and then became a decent multi-inning reliever in the minors. His ceiling is likely low leverage innings in the majors. That's fine, as it will save the other pitchers in the Giants pen for when things are on the line.

2. Josh Osich

In the minors, Josh Osich profiled as a potential big league closer someday. In 2015 he pitched in 29 innings as a lefty specialist faring well in 35 games. In 2016 he needs to move forward and have a complete season as the seventh inning guy with the occasional high leverage LOOGY role. Turning a sixth round pick into a high leverage reliever is another example of the Giants player development expertise.

Tyler Beede may be what separates the Giants from the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West in 2016. He may not be ready on opening day, but he likely will need to start if any of the major league starters go down in season. That is a lot to ask of a 2015 first round pick, but he has been able to answer the call at every stage of his baseball development. His success is key for the Giants in 2016 and beyond.

San Francisco Giants Clobber Three Home Runs In Opener

Coming into the season, many MLB experts picked the San Francisco Giants to win the NL West because of their impressive starting rotation. While the Giants' pitching is undoubtedly elite, their hitters are more than capable of carrying the team as well. In San Francisco's opener on Monday, Denard Span, Joe Panik and Buster Posey homered consecutively, and the Giants went on to defeat Milwaukee 12-3.

Giants' Johnny Cueto Gets Nailed In Head With Line Drive

This was a rather bizarre situation. San Francisco Giants hurler Johnny Cueto was struck in the head by a line drive on his first pitch against Oakland on Monday. Instead of coming right out of the game to be examined, Cueto remained on the mound. After the game, he went to the hospital just to be safe. He's fine according to reports, but why Giants manager Bruce Bochy let him pitch is beyond me.
