Jerry Sloan Could Return To Coaching: Interested In Orlando Magic Or Charlotte Bobcats

By Riley Schmitt

Jerry Sloan is looking at getting back into coaching.  The legendary coach last coached the Utah Jazz before a feud with Deron Williams caused him to abruptly retire.  After a year and a half away from the game, Sloan is interested in returning to coach the Orlando Magic or the Charlotte Bobcats.

The Magic would be an interesting situation for Jerry Sloan.  Could he get through to Dwight Howard or will Dwight be another superstar that eventually drives him bonkers?  Charlotte is a real wild card and I imagine Sloan would wait until after the NBA Draft Lottery to decide.  If you aren’t getting Anthony Davis, why would you go to Charlotte?

Jerry Sloan is one of the best coaches in NBA history to never come home with a ring.  He was also a great player, but he could never get that ring.  He might be looking at getting back into coaching to chase that dream, but I do not see how these jobs accomplish that.  It is absurd for him to go to Charlotte.  The team is just awful, the ownership might be worse, and it is a blackhole.

I would imagine that Jerry Sloan would want to meet with Howard before he would take the Orlando job.  You need to make sure you are on the same page as your superstar.  If not, it leads to a very early exit from coaching.  I think Sloan would make Howard better than ever, but only if Howard wants to be coached.
