Minnesota Timberwolves: Kevin Love Will Represent Team at NBA Draft Lottery
The Minnesota Timberwolves announced a couple days ago that forward Kevin Love will be representing the team for this year’s 2013 NBA Draft Lottery set to take place Tuesday, May 21st at 7pm CST in New York. Hopefully Love can bring the Wolves some luck as they prepare for the announcement of their position in this year’s draft.
Minnesota currently holds a 1.7% chance of obtaining the first overall pick, 2% for the second overall pick and 2.41% for the third. Regardless of which slot they receive in the lottery, the Wolves are headed into the draft with plenty of opportunities as they possess two first round picks as well as two more in the second.
“It’s an honor to represent the Wolves at this year’s Draft Lottery,” said Love. “With two first-round picks, we are in a good position to add to our current roster. Hopefully I can bring us some luck.”
One of Flip Saunders‘ number one priorities will more than likely be to bring on a dynamic swing man that is able to create his own shot but at the same time knock one down off a catch and shoot set up by point guard Ricky Rubio. Too many times last season Rubio would set his teammates up with open looks and they would fail to capitalize.
Another potential scenario is for the Wolves to go after a shot-blocking big man they can ease into the rotation. While center Nikola Pekovic is consistent on the offensive end, his shot-blocking skills could use some work. For now, a more defensive-minded and athletic center could be a possibility for Minnesota.
The draft is going to be held June 27, 2013 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Maybe, just maybe, Love and company could be slotted a little higher than their current ninth spot come draft day.
