After publicly assuring the NBA that he won’t coach anymore, Phil Jackson may be coming back after all.
However, his role will be much different. Like Pat Riley in Miami, the Lakers hope Jackson could assume a consultant role to help better the Lakers. Jim Buss finally understands that Jackson is key in any success the Los Angeles Lakers have, and Buss agrees that a role in the front office will benefit them.
“I’d be more than happy to have him on a consultant basis,” Buss said to NBC Sports. “I don’t think we’re paying him and I don’t know if he has an official title … But I have no issues with him coming back or having a role.”
Jeanie Buss has come and said that Jackson will be considering doing a broadcasting job as well.
“He wants to be supportive of me and the organization,” she said. “If we asked him to fill in on the broadcast because someone was out, I’m sure he’d do it. Just because everyone puts him as a coach doesn’t mean that’s the only thing he’s capable of doing.”
This is great news for Lakers fans. We all want Jackson to be involved and finally our hopes and dreams have been fulfilled. He is becoming an important fixture in the Lakers organization and that’s great news for everyone.
