Retirement Would Not Be The End Of The World For Ray Allen
Earlier this week, a writer reported via Twitter that NBA veteran Ray Allen had announced his decision to join the Cleveland Cavaliers and reunite with LeBron James. However, the reports were nothing more than speculation, as the 39-year-old guard has yet to make a final decision on his basketball career.
It has been rumored that Allen was interested in possibly joining the Chicago Bulls or the Cavaliers. There is even the chance that he could return to the Miami Heat and rejoin Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade. Or, there is the likely possibility that Allen may never suit up again.
Retirement would not be the end of the world for the league’s all-time three-point field goal leader. If Allen did decide to retire, it would not be because of his physical ability. Even though his numbers have declined over the last three seasons, he has still proven that he is better than most of the players coming out of college.
Frankly, it should be no surprise to anyone if Allen decides to retire. With 19 seasons under his belt and his status as a future Hall-of-Famer essentially cemented, what more does he have to prove? Not to mention, he is the father of five children, and his youngest has Type-1 Diabetes. Can you blame the guy for wanting to retire to spend time with his family, especially after spending the last two decades traveling and playing basketball?
Whether he returns to the NBA, joins the Cavaliers or finally hangs up his sneakers, Allen will go down as one of the best shooting guards to ever play the game. With only a few weeks left until Opening Night, we should expect a final decision from Allen soon. However, no outcome should come as a surprise to the basketball universe.
