The Los Angeles Clippers are considered on of the favorites to capture the 2015 NBA Championship. A large part of those aspirations is the cause of the team’s point guard in Chris Paul. As Paul enters this season, he has to feel the expectations and also has to step up for his team to reach their pinnacle. These are five goals he should be looking at reaching for the 2014-15 season.

Paul has always been a player sniffing around the MVP race, but it’s also a race that he’s never won. With the emergence of a number of other stars around the league, CP3 playing well enough to still be in the MVP race will be important, so he should certainly look to do just that.

It’s no secret that the talented point guard has a tendency to coast at times when he doesn’t deem it necessary to be going full-throttle. Though that’s partially about preservation, CP3 should look to turn it up more often to help his team look like a contender more often than not.

Paul averaged a double-double last season and just missed the 20-10 mark. For him to be at full effectiveness, he needs to be dominant as a scorer and as a facilitator. Setting a goal of a 20-10 season would certainly mean he’s doing his part in both aspects.

2. Get The One-Seed In The West

This is more of a team goal, but it’s one that CP3 will have a big part in making happen. If the Clippers are going to be taken completely serious as a legitimate title-threat, winning the West is a way to send that message clearly to the rest of the conference and the league.

This should be a goal for any team that is the caliber of this Clippers team, but it should be in the eye of Paul more than others. This is one of the league’s best players who hasn’t yet had that deep postseason run in his career. That should be number one on his to-do list for this season and it’s not really close.
