5 Goals Blake Griffin Should Set For 2014-15 Season

Blake Griffin is already seen as a star by many in this league, which is good news considering the amount of things he can still add to his game in order to become an even better player. Griffin and the Clippers suffered another early exit in the second round of the playoffs last year. If the Clippers are to become a title favorite this season, he will need to elevate his game to the next level. Here are five goals he should set for this year.

During his first few years in the league, Griffin has the reputation for having "tunnel vision" when he begins his drives into the lane. It is to the point where defenders expect Griffin to try to pummel his way to a basket every time he puts his head down. Passing out of the post is one area where he can improve, being that defenses will not be expecting him to given the scouting report on him.

He is far from alone in this category, but often we see NBA stars aggressively swat shots into the third row when they could have easily blocked it strategically to a teammate and started a fast-break the other way. Griffin is a phenomenal shot-blocker, but if he could alter some shots so that his team could gain possession, it would make them much better.

Griffin reportedly spent a lot of time working on his jump shot this summer, a part of his game many felt needed attention. So far, it appears as though he has made tremendous strides, thanks mainly to an earlier release than previously seen. He is even showing confidence shooting from three-point range too, and if he continues to show improvement in his jump shot it will make the Clippers an absolutely lethal threat.

2. Frequently Look To Dunk

I do not think I have to tell him this, but Griffin should continue to look to dunk as often as possible. If he has a good opportunity he is either going to make the dunk or get fouled in doing so. It is a win-win either way. Given that defenses should be respecting his jump shot more this year, this will give him the necessary room at times to blow by his opponent and sky off for another Sportscenter highlight reel jam.

Given the recent injury to Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder, many are expecting the Clippers to be the main team in the Western Conference to challenge the San Antonio Spurs. Griffin needs to feel that it is his time to show that the Clippers are the toast of Los Angeles now, not the Lakers, and the best way for this to become a reality is by leading the Clippers to their first championship.
