Josh McRoberts Has Been Far From Helpful To Miami Heat

Josh McRoberts was thought to be one of the better free agent signings for the Miami Heat. Even though Pat Riley had all the free roster and cap space in the world, he had very little options after LeBron James took his sweet time making a decision. Based on the circumstances, McRoberts was a good save for Riley and the Heat.

Fast-forward a few months and five NBA regular season games. Now, McRoberts is turning into five million mistakes. The power forward has played in four games while only averaging eight minutes, 1.9 points and 1.3 rebounds. Even with Chris Andersen out with an injury for the last two games, McRoberts has been unable to capitalize and breakthrough.

With a four-year, $20-plus million contract, McRoberts wasn’t signed as an insurance policy or just to fill space. It has been no secret that Miami’s frontcourt and post play has been an ongoing woe. Andersen and Chris Bosh are a great pair in the post, but there isn’t much after them. McRoberts was thought to help out in the post and rebounding department. Somebody send out a memo when that happens.

Don’t be surprised if Riley uses McRoberts in a trade scenario. Miami needs to strength the frontcourt and bring in some proven post players. There are not many options currently open, but as we get closer to February, there are bound to be more disgruntled players, which will open up options for the Heat.

Based on the length and contract size that Miami gave McRoberts and his performance to start the season, it is hard to see him in a Heat uniform for much longer, let alone all three guaranteed years. The deal seemed good on paper, but now the better one is getting McRoberts out of South Beach.
