Stephen Curry has been a blessing to the game of basketball and a joy to watch in the NBA. He is a reminder that prototypical size, strength, and speed are not always prerequisites for being a high-quality player, and that hard work, determination and dedication to perfecting one’s craft can make someone great.
In 2009, the Golden State Warriors made quite possibly the best pick of the draft when they selected Curry with the No. 7 overall pick. Since that time, Curry has done nothing but impress and has become the game’s best shooter, and arguably the greatest shooter of all time.
Curry has the ability to hurt defenders in a multitude of ways and his shot, while deadly, is not the only thing that defines him. He is blessed with exceptional court vision and a basketball IQ that allows him to excel despite his physical limitations. This season, he is currently averaging 23.5 PPG with 7.6 APG. In addition to his offensive exploits, he is no slouch on defense, as demonstrated by his 1.92 STLPG, which places him currently at seventh in the league.
Because of his play, the Warriors were able to win 16 straight games in a month’s span and currently have the best record in the NBA at 21-3. Now, Curry is not by himself in this, so let me be sure not to disrespect the collective effort the Warriors have put in to become an elite team.
Fellow backcourt member and “splash brother” Klay Thompson has been tremendous as well, and is more than deserving of a spot on the West’s All-Star team. Thompson is averaging 21.7 PPG and shooting 43.8 percent from the 3-point line.
In the end, though, Curry is the key to this team’s success, and his play warrants him a starting spot on the Western Conference All-Star team.
