It was a long season for the New York Knicks. After they tanked the 2014-15 campaign, it's vital that they show the benefit of such a strategy. These are the moves that Phil Jackson and the Knicks absolutely must make in order to go from worst to first.

5. Sign Rajon Rondo

The Knicks are in desperate need of a floor general. Someone needs to facilitate the offense and provide open shots for Carmelo Anthony and company. Rondo's time in Dallas has been shaky, making unlikely that he will re-sign, so New York should be able to acquire him in free agency. They may be battling with the Los Angeles Lakers.

4. Sign DeAndre Jordan

After trading Tyson Chandler away, Phil Jackson acknowledged that Chandler is actually the ideal center for his Triangle Offense. Confusing, right? Luckily, a younger, more athletic and overall better version of Chandler is available this offseason. DeAndre Jordan has shown flashes of greatness with the Clippers, but might be looking for a boost to his career. Playing home games in Madison Square Garden could be that boost.

3. Sign Danny Green

The Spurs' dynasty is coming to an end, and for a promising young player, the time to leave is now. Danny Green made a name for himself with some historic three-point shooting in the playoffs over the last couple years. He's a three-point specialist, but he also has the ability to do some other things. The Knicks badly need shooters, and Green is one of the best in the league.

2. Ditch The Triangle Offense

System basketball is fine, but only if the system is an effective one. The Triangle Offense is simply outdated. The style of today involves a fast tempo, a lot of screen-and-roll action and a lot of ball movement. The Triangle Offense almost makes the Knicks seem like a college team, slowing it down and grinding out possessions. They need some more freedom and flow. It's time to move on.

1. Trade First-Round Pick For Kevin Durant

First-round picks are heavily scouted but are still somewhat shots in the dark. The Knicks are guaranteed to have a top-five pick in the upcoming draft, but in order to take the team all the way back to being a contender, they're going to need proven players. Kevin Durant's foot problems have raised eyebrows around the league, so now is the time to offer this trade. Carmelo Anthony would become a stretch-four, and the Knicks would be back.
