5 Free Agents the New York Knicks Should Avoid This Offseason

The New York Knicks' offseason is highly anticipated. Phil Jackson has said that they plan on adding at least two starters through free agency. There aren't a lot of superstars who are expected to relocate this summer, but there are plenty of good players. The Knicks need talent badly, but not every good player is someone they should be targeting.

Lopez has had a nice season for Rip City playing alongside LaMarcus Aldridge. His game is centered around defense and rebounding, but he lacks offensive ability. The Knicks could use his defense and energy, but they need a reliable offensive big.

4. Elton Brand

There have been recent rumors of the Knicks acquiring the 36-year-old power forward. Brand and the Knicks nearly joined forces last season, but now he is clearly out of his prime and on the tail end of his career. Injuries have plagued him over the years, so it would be a very Knicks-like acquisition; but if they want to turn things around, they must avoid Brand.

3. Paul Millsap

Millsap is an undersized power forward. He's a bit of a tweener, much like Carmelo Anthony has become, as both Millsap and Anthony stand at 6-foot-8. The Knicks either need a power forward with size or a small forward with quickness and athleticism. Millsap and Anthony are too similar to pair together in a lineup.

2. Kevin Love

Love had an interesting season in Cleveland. He never really seemed to fit, and he doesn't appear to be happy as the third-best player behind LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. Naturally, Love's numbers dipped this season, but he still seems capable of being a double-double machine. However, Love's game has become jumpshot-heavy over the years. The Knicks need someone to complement Carmelo Anthony, and Love's style would likely clash with it.

There's so much about Aldridge's game that would make sense in New York. He fits the triangle offense very well thanks to his ability to score on the block and in the mid-range. However, he's not known for his defense. A front line of Aldridge and Carmelo Anthony would not be very intimidating to opposing offenses. Aldridge is not the Knicks' guy.
