5 Players The New York Knicks Should Consider Trading This Offseason

All of the talk about the New York Knicks' potential rebuild has been centered around free agency and the draft. Don't forget that the Knicks can also make changes via trade, and that they have a few assets with value.

Calderon had an injury-plagued first season in New York. The sharpshooting point guard was expected to provide stability to the position, but struggled to stay on the floor. If Phil Jackson wants to build on defense, Calderon is not the guy. His value is in his 3-point shooting and experience.

4. Jason Smith

The Knicks said they would re-sign Andrea Bargnani for the right price -- probably the league minimum. If that's the case, this makes Jason Smith quite expendable. Bargnani and Smith do very similar things. Both could excel in lesser roles, but have been asked to do a lot for the Knicks of late. Teams seeking a quality stretch-four might like Smith.

3. Langston Galloway

After being called up from the Knicks' D-League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks, Galloway provided a spark to an otherwise lackluster season in New York. He averaged 11.8 PPG and shot 35.2 percent from 3-point range in 45 games. His numbers are inflated, having played over 32 minutes per game, so hopefully Knicks fans didn't fall too much in love with him and his 12.3 Player Efficiency Rating.

Hardaway has been mentioned in trade talks for quite some time now. He has often been the piece that other teams demanded in order to make a deal with the Knicks. The Knicks have held onto him, but if his development halts, they should look for serious offers for him. Hardaway was expected to have increased production, especially after the Knicks mailed it in. However, he only improved from 10.2 to 11.5 points per game.

As much as people insist that building through the draft is the best way to become contenders, the reality is that rookies and young players rarely make serious impacts. It takes proven players to win in the NBA, and if the Knicks were to dangle their top-five pick, some teams might be willing to give up a mid- or high-level star.
