5 Players the Miami Heat Should Consider Trading This Offseason

With such a disappointing season in the rearview mirror, the Miami Heat have no choice but to regroup in a major way due to failing to make the playoffs after four consecutive Finals appearances. The Heat’s roster will undoubtedly look different heading into the upcoming regular season, with free agency being the primary place the Heat will find their success. Here are five players the Miami Heat should consider trading this offseason.

5. Shabazz Napier

Shabazz Napier didn’t quite live up to the expectations set for him this season, and really struggled as a primary offensive option off the bench. The Heat desperately needed depth at this position, and until Goran Dragic arrived, none of the Heat’s trio of point guards could help fill that void. Napier could be included with the Heat’s potential first round pick this summer for a quality backup point guard.

4. Zoran Dragic

Zoran Dragic was included in the trade that brought his brother Goran to Miami, and since being acquired, Zoran hasn’t gotten any substantial playing time. With the rise of Tyler Johnson as a legitimate backup shooting guard, Zoran may find himself in a new city by season’s start. His contract is also small enough that it could be included in a larger trade or with their top-ten pick for a better wing player.

3. Josh McRoberts

Josh McRoberts didn’t get a chance to thrive in Miami this year due to his season ending injury, but because of the size of his contract and the fact that Heat desperately need a wing player over another stretch-four, McRoberts could be on his way out. Who the Heat draft will also play a major role in McRoberts' future, but the fact that his skillset is very similar to Chris Bosh’s doesn’t bode well for the talented veteran’s future.

2. Chris Andersen

The rapid rise of Hassan Whiteside has changed the Heat’s overall long-term plans for how their frontcourt rotation will be structured. Chris Andersen was once the Heat’s primary shot blockers and rebounders, but now that is no longer the case. His age also dictates consistent decline statistically across the board, and the Heat are now focusing on developing young, athletic players, for which Andersen does not fit the mold.

1. Mario Chalmers

Since the start of last season, depth at the shooting guard position has been a major issue for the Miami Heat. Chalmers was given a chance to prove that he could thrive statistically and help keep the Heat’s backcourt afloat. Unfortunately, Chalmers was once again wildly inconsistent and struggled with any role that was placed in front of him, averaging 10.2 points and 3.8 assists on 40 percent shooting. This is why Chalmers needs to be traded.

Kenneth Faried is one of the hardest NBA players to figure out. He flashes All-Star caliber brilliance some games, and pulls disappearing acts during others. Against the Miami Heat on Monday night, Faried was back doing the type of stuff that earned him the 'Manimal' nickname, as evidenced by his finish on this epic alley-oop.
