The Washington Wizards still haven’t gotten over their early playoff exit, but there might be hope for them at the end of the tunnel.

This should be a week with plenty of offseason speculation considering both Conference Finals playoff series are now over, and the media will eventually run out of LeBron James and Stephen Curry storylines. Wizards fans will get to focus on a different headline during the summer. This is true after an anonymous NBA player predicted to Basketball Insiders that Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant would leave for Washington in light of a conversation about elite players wanting to move to the Eastern Conference.

“It wouldn’t be a bad idea [to join an East team],” said an unknown player. “I’m pretty sure Kevin Durant is going to start it off and go home to D.C.”

Durant is a native of Prince George’s County and will most likely be an unrestricted free agent in 2016. The Wizards obviously have cap room available that summer, and they could have even more with a trade or two. They will also be in sore need of help at the SF position after Paul Pierce probably leaves for the Los Angeles Clippers this summer. I didn’t want to believe that rumor at first; however, it feels like Pierce could dispel that story on social media quite quickly if he wanted to. We all remember how he clowned the Toronto Raptors two times on Twitter.

KD would obviously be welcomed in the District, and he has even played on the same team with John Wall once before during the 2011 lockout. This was at an event dubbed the “Clash of the Superstars” which occurred at Calvin Coolidge High School in Washington. That game ended up being a win for Wall and Durant, and Wizards fans are hoping for a similar victory in the summer of 2016.

Wizards' Drew Gooden Turns Bizarre Possession Into And-One Chance

This has to go down as one of the strangest plays in the NBA this season. Washington's Drew Gooden throws a bad pass which bounces right back to him, and then manages to turn a feeble shot attempt into an and-one opportunity thanks to boneheaded defense from Derrick Favors. Sadly, Gooden missed the subsequent free-throw attempt.
