The Golden State Warriors proved they are the best team in the Western Conference by eliminating the Houston Rockets in five games. They now have the daunting task of taking on LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. In order to fulfill their destiny, Golden State will have to be at full strength. Unfortunately, Klay Thompson dealing with concussion-like symptoms could keep him out of Game 1, which would be devastating for the Warriors.
Initially, Thompson did not show any concussion-like symptoms after Houston’s Trevor Ariza accidentally kneed him in the side of the head, creating a laceration that saw blood pour out of the cut. However, he began to feel woozy after Golden State’s victory, which is when team doctors found out that he began to display concussion-like symptoms.
“Klay Thompson was evaluated by the Warriors medical staff immediately after suffering an injury during tonight’s game and was put through a concussion evaluation,” according to a statement released by the Warriors Wednesday night. “At the time he did not show any concussion-like symptoms. After the game he began to not feel well and developed concussion-like symptoms. He will continue to be evaluated by the team’s medical staff tonight.”
In order for Thompson to play in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on June 4, he will have to pass a protocol test. Even though it is highly likely he will be cleared to play, there is still the possibility that he is unable to pass the test in time. In that case, he would be forced to sit out the contest, which would instantly give the Cavaliers a huge advantage.
In 15 games this postseason, Thompson is averaging 19.7 points, 2.9 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game while converting 45.9 percent of his shots from the field and 42.5 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc.
