5. Scott Brooks

Fans are divided on their take of Scott Brooks. Some believe Brooks can’t hack NBA coaching and benefited from incredible luck in the draft. Some believe Brooks didn’t get a fair shake after back-to-back seasons with an injury-riddled roster. If you believe the latter, then Brooks would definitely be conditioned for Chicago.

Jeff Van Gundy commands an odd nostalgia among NBA fans who’d like to see a new coach leading their team. Van Gundy can handle big market basketball and he’s been close to the game since leaving the Houston Rockets in 2007, so why not Chicago?

3. Fred Hoiberg

Let’s hope this wouldn’t become Tim Floyd 2.0. Back in 1998, the Bulls hired Floyd after a stint with the Iowa State Cyclones and that didn’t end so well. If the Bulls do land Fred Hoiberg, let’s hope he’s the rising stock that raises all hopes.

2. David Blatt

This adds up only if the Bulls are willing to wait. Say Hoiberg says no and then what if LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers make an early exit from the NBA Finals? James won’t have the time for Blatt that he had for Erik Spoelstra and it would create one new job opening while entering an additional coaching candidate.

1. Alvin Gentry

In between whispers of Hoiberg there’s been rumbling of Alvin Gentry. Usually an assistant, but rarely a head coach, Gentry has been involved in high-level basketball since 1980. And it could be this calming, experienced presence that could recalibrate the Bulls’ winning course.
