This lefty from Murray State, Cameron Payne, will easily fit in the Oklahoma City Thunder system. It’s a little interesting given that OKC just traded for another point guard in Luke Ridnour earlier, but this should actually be the beginning of a departure from either Ridnour or former backup D.J. Augustin.
That said, Payne is definitely a great prize, and it could easily be said that he has been one of the few steals in this years draft so far. OKC did really well with this pick.
Payne can flat out score the rock, and with him playing alongside Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant, teams should be frightened. Not only can Payne score though; he can also create, especially in the open court where Oklahoma City thrives. His confidence isn’t lacking either, as he referred to himself in the third person in most of his post draft interview.
OKC just added yet another dynamic piece to their already-loaded puzzle. The only question is whether rookie head coach Billy Donovan can put all the pieces together. My bet is he can.
