The Los Angeles Lakers will likely have plenty of young prospects who will be competing for playing time next season, as they are finally starting to acquire younger assets. The team wasted no time with their second round pick in taking Anthony Brown, a quality perimeter player with the skills to be a strong role-player in the league. The Lakers currently do not have much at the small forward position, and Brown has the chance to be an early contributor for the team.

Brown is a local product who played four years in college and is mature enough to play right away. His best quality is his shooting, and he shot about 45% in both his junior and senior seasons from deep. He has a very good release and should continue to shoot well even at the professional level. He is an intelligent offensive player with a good feel for the game, and is a good passer on the wing. He does need to work on his finishing and playmaking, but with the current roster he will likely be just fine staying on the perimeter and spacing the floor.

While not incredibly athletic, Brown’s height and length make him a very good defensive prospect. He shows lateral quickness, and is versatile enough to guard multiple positions. He does not create many turnovers from the position, but also does not gamble as much as other players.

Brown was a very good pick in the second round, and should be able to play right away for the Lakers. The team needs more shooting and defensive ability on the wing, two things that Brown can certainly provide. He is older than most draft picks, and his experience will help him adapt to the professional game. The team has plenty of young players competing for spots, but Brown fits in very nicely with what the team needs next season.
