Dwyane Wade informed the Miami Heat that he would be opting out of the final year of his contract with the team to test the open free agency market. There are still quite a few analysts expecting him to end up back in Miami, but there are already rumors about other teams that could be able to sign him. According to a report from the Miami Herald, the Milwaukee Bucks could be one of those teams.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out how important signing Wade would be for the Bucks. They took a major step forward last season by making the NBA Playoffs, and adding a star like Wade would help them take another major leap ahead during the 2015-16 season.

During the 2014-15 season with the Heat, Wade ended up averaging 21.5 points, 4.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game. He shot 47.0 percent from the floor overall and knocked down just 28.4 percent from behind the three-point arc. His shooting percentages obviously weren’t what the Heat had come to know and love over the previous few seasons, but he was still able to get the job done and put up consistently solid numbers.

Health has been a concern for Wade over the past three or four years as well, and it was an issue once again last season. He ended up playing in 62 regular season games and missed a chunk of time with various injury issues and for rest as well.

Milwaukee would be more than capable of giving Wade the type of rest that he needs, as they have a very talented young team put together. He would immediately step up as their top scorer and put a lot of pressure on opposing defenses. Having a veteran leader like Wade to help the young roster grow and learn would be ideal for the Bucks as well.

The next question that has to be answered is whether or not the Bucks actually have a legitimate chance to sign him.

Thinking back to Wade’s college career at Marquette, the entire state of Wisconsin fell in love with what he did on the floor. He was a superstar with the Golden Eagles and would be welcomed back to the state with open arms.

Jason Kidd showed that he is one of the more underrated head coaches in the NBA last season. The Bucks have talent, but they certainly shouldn’t have made the playoffs with what he had. Playing for a coach like him would be a very attractive possibility for the veteran shooting guard.

All of that being said, there is no question that the Bucks could make a play for Wade with the cap room that they have. Whether or not they’d be able to beat out other offers from around the league for him is a different question. It would be an interesting situation for Wade, especially being given the opportunity to take a borderline contender in the Eastern Conference to being a legitimate title contender.

At 33 years old, Wade still has a few good years of basketball left in his career. He has to make a decision on whether or not he wants to finish his career with the Heat or start a new chapter and try to finish off his legacy by creating something special with a young team.
