Will the Orlando Magic keep Tobias Harris in the fold for next season, or will the price tag be too high for the team and they let him walk? That is the question currently facing the Magic right now, but it shouldn’t be a question; they should match any offer that comes his way.

With all of the prime free agents basically snapped up, the Magic would be wise to keep their core intact, and that core does include Harris. Harris is a rare talent. He can play either forward position, take players off the dribble and has a nice outside game. In short, he’s the total package.

Even more important, he’s only 22 years old, which means that his game will only continue to grow by leaps and bounds. But the Magic are thinking about dollars and cents, and the question floating around Magic headquarters is if Harris is worth a max deal somewhere in the range of $80 million.

That is the price Harris is going to command, and there are teams out there that are willing to give him that kind of cash to pry him away from Orlando. Magic GM Rob Hennigan has said repeatedly that he expects Harris to be in a Magic uniform next season, but sources from within the Magic organization are saying that if Harris is offered a max deal, the team will more than likely not match it.

But with the best free agents now off the board, Orlando should open the checkbook to keep their rising talent. If they were willing to pay a 31-year-old Paul Millsap $80 million, then they can certainly pay Harris that same amount.

It’s time to be smart and keep Harris in the Magic Kingdom.
