Now that the Miami Heat have settled all of their internal free agency issues with Luol Deng, Goran Dragic and most importantly Dwyane Wade, the depth of the bench has become the next primary focus. Defense, three-point shooting and overall consistency were huge concerns with the second unit last season, so the Heat will be looking for free agents who can meet some of these requirements to help strengthen this roster.

One player in particular who has his name associated with the Heat frequently is former NBA Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams. The 10-year shooting guard would provide a huge boost for the Heat’s backcourt rotation, giving the bench a huge offensive spark. Williams hit the peak of his career last season with the Toronto Raptors by averaging 15.5 points, 2.1 assists and 1.9 rebounds while shooting 41 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc. A second unit of Williams, Justise Winslow and Josh McRoberts is an extremely deep bench, something the Heat haven’t had in quite some time.

The only way the Heat would be able to facilitate this move is by pulling off a sign-and-trade with Toronto due to Williams commanding more than the taxpayer’s mid-level. Moving players like Mario Chalmers and Chris Andersen could help this trade happen as well, but if Williams has any mutual interest of coming to Miami at all, the Heat have to make this happen. A backcourt rotation of Dragic, Wade and Williams could be one of the best in the East and be the final piece the Heat need to contend for a title.
