After a tremendously tumultuous first half of 2015, free agent point guard Rajon Rondo has finally found a home. Rondo and the Sacramento Kings have reportedly agreed to a one-year deal worth $10 million according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports.

Rondo has experienced quite a fall from grace in recent years. Back when he was playing with Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett on the Boston Celtics, he was considered one of the top five point guards in the NBA. Now, his best option was to sign a short-term deal with one of the league’s most dysfunctional franchises in order to build up his value and cash in again down the road.

The Kings missed out on a myriad of free agents already this week, including Rondo’s former Dallas Mavericks teammate Monta Ellis. Considering the uncertainty surrounding DeMarcus Cousins‘ future with the organization, Sacramento just isn’t a particularly appealing destination right now. That being said, Rondo is actually in a perfect position from a personal standpoint, as it’s going to be incredibly difficult to look bad playing with such a lousy team.

In all likelihood, Rondo will play respectable basketball this coming season, and ultimately find himself a much more lucrative deal either with the Kings, or another club for 2016-17 and beyond. Perhaps this humbling career moment is exactly what the one-time NBA champion needed.

At 29 years old, it’s fair to assume Rondo has plenty of good basketball in front of him as his skill set isn’t what led to his demise.
