15 Most Overrated Players In The NBA Right Now

The 2015-16 NBA season is near the halfway point. After 30-something games, it’s clear what direction a player’s season is heading, whether it’s positive or negative. Here are the 15 most overrated players in the NBA right now.

15. Alec Burks

Alec Burks Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports
I went back and forth between Alec Burks and Trey Burke here. Burks takes the cake because of his absurd salary, mediocre defense, and the fact that he's a shooting guard with a struggling jump shot. After a hot start and dreams of a breakout season, he has fizzled out and come back to earth.

14. Jeff Green

Jeff Green Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports
Jeff Green has been a bust since he came to the Memphis Grizzlies via trade last season. Expected to be a knockdown 3-point shooter, Green has shot barely over 30 percent from downtown since the trade, including a dismal 25 percent clip this season. Memphis has struggled to score this season, and with neither Mike Conley, Marc Gasol, or Zach Randolph on top of their game, Green's ineffectiveness is even more apparent.

13. Lou Williams

Lou Williams Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports
The Lou Williams signing made no sense for the Los Angeles Lakers at the time, and it still doesn't. The defending Sixth Man of the Year has never been known for his efficiency, and that has only contributed to the Lakers' shooting woes. Nearly 45 percent of Williams' field goal attempts are 3-point shots, yet he only shoots 35 percent from that distance.

12. Danny Green

Danny Green Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports
Green had developed a reputation as a sharpshooter, but is shooting just 33 percent from downtown this season. He has the lowest offensive rating on the entire Spurs roster, and if that type of play continues, it could change his playoff value.

11. Terrence Jones

I don't know if it's Dwight Howard's fault or Terrence Jones' fault that Jones has a higher usage rate than Howard, but the attention on Jones is not warranted. He's a nice player, but not the star that the Rockets wanted the public to believe during various trade discussions. Houston would be smart to move him now before his value dips lower.

10. Ricky Rubio

Ricky Rubio Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports
Ricky Rubio had such a great start, and it finally looked like he was ready to break out. However, the optimism turned out to be premature. Rubio continues to be an effective passer, but his shooting is worse than ever as he is scoring at a less-than-35 percent clip.

9. Tyson Chandler

Tyson Chandler Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports
Tyson Chandler has not been his typical dominant defensive self this season. After being brought in to take the Phoenix Suns to the next level, they are 29th in opponent points per game. Chandler was also brought in to be a calming veteran presence, and with the colossal meltdown happening right now in Phoenix, they can't be happy about the $52 million deal they gave him.

8. Chandler Parsons

Chandler Parsons Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports
Chandler Parsons isn't having a particularly terrible season, but for his $15 million salary, the Dallas Mavericks were certainly expecting more than the 9.3 PPG he has given them. Parsons has struggled mightily from behind the arc (33 percent) and the free throw line (56 percent), paving the way to an abysmal offensive rating of 98.

7. Monta Ellis

Monta Ellis Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports
Monta Ellis was expected to have a great year in the Indiana Pacers' wide-open offense, but instead he's having one of the worst seasons of his career. Ellis is averaging just 13 PPG in 33 minutes while shooting below 30 percent from behind the arc. If he were performing better, perhaps Indiana would be higher than the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference.

6. Damian Lillard

Damian Lillard Craig Mitchelldyer-USA TODAY Sports
Damian Lillard playing 36.7 MPG is very admirable, but the fact that he's averaging 20 shots and eight 3-point attempts per game while shooting just 41 percent isn't. Lillard's defense has long been a subject of criticism and that hasn't changed, as he is ranked 81st among point guards in defensive real plus-minus, while Portland has their best defensive rating with him off the court.

5. Jeff Teague

Jeff Teague made the All-Star last season for the first time, thus creating higher expectations this season. He has struggled with his shot, and hasn't regained his 2014-15 form.

4. DeMar Derozan

DeMar Derozan Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports
DeMar Derozan's ball-dominating play hurts the Toronto Raptors, and although his shooting has slightly improved this season, he will need to become a better long-range shooter to justify the level of praise he receives.

3. Kevin Love

Kevin Love Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports
Kevin Love started out red-hot with LeBron James proclaiming him the new focal point of the offense. Now his shooting has slipped back down to realistic numbers, and with Kyrie Irving's return, Love will certainly return to his role as third wheel.

2. Al Jefferson

Al Jefferson Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports
Al Jefferson has played in only 19 games this season due to multiple injuries and a suspension for violating the the substance abuse policy, but he didn't look a guy who was fighting for a new contract when he was playing. Jefferson was scoring just 12.5 PPG and as usual hurting the Hornets on defense.

1. Hassan Whiteside

Hassan Whiteside Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports
This is not a scathing indictment on Hassan Whiteside, but he actually hurts the Miami Heat just as much as he helps them. Whiteside is 68th among centers in offensive real plus-minus, and the Heat actually have a better defensive rating when he is off the court. Again, he's a good player, but not worthy of the max contract he will receive this summer.
