Ed Davis Deserves More Playing Time For Portland Trail Blazers In Second Half Of 2015-16

By Brendan Patel

The Portland Trail Blazers have been one of the surprising teams in the Western Conference, and find themselves in the mix for a playoff spot. They have several very talented guards, as well as good role players around them. Their balanced roster allows them to compete every night, and they should continue to get better. One player who has played well for them is Ed Davis, whose size and athleticism has helped the team.

Davis is an exceptionally good rebounder, who combines athleticism with a nose for the basketball. He puts pressure on defenses by averaging almost three offensive rebounds a game, and helps create extra possessions for his team. Although he does not possess much of a jump shot, he always shoots an extremely high percentage due to his knack of getting open around the basket. The team has several playmakers capable of drawing extra defenders, and Davis can take advantage of this with his ability to finish explosively at the rim.

Davis is a versatile asset on defense, as he is quick enough to switch onto smaller players on the perimeter, while long enough to challenge shots in the paint. The team does have athleticism throughout the roster, and Davis gives them another player who can help make it more difficult for their opponents.

Davis has proved in the past that he can be a useful player regardless of the situation he is in. He is capable of playing either power forward or center, and has worked well with their current big man rotation. However, Davis is capable of playing even more minutes, as he has a positive impact every time he enters the game.
