Damian Lillard Is Drawing Major Label Interest As A Rapper

By Brad Berreman

For many professional athletes, finding a post-career pursuit can be a challenge. Some choose broadcasting, while others enter the coaching realm or a front office position. Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard has gone toward rap music, recording tracks and using social media to engage people as well.

With over 4.5 million plays on his SoundCloud page, TMZ Sports has passed along indications from agent Aaron Goodwin that “several major labels” have interest in Lillard’s music. Goodwin said that Lillard is interested in that avenue, as opposed to starting his own record label, but he won’t seriously pursue it until the NBA season is over.

We’ve all seen a glimpse of Lillard’s singing chops, however tongue-in-cheekly, via his “Baby Dame” character and the “Droppin’ Dimes” song featured in State Farm Insurance ads. But his talent level is legitimate, and Lillard is on track to create a significant side income in the midst of a playing career that has a lot of years left.
