Trent Johnson and TCU Land Top-50 Recruit Karviar Shepherd
After landing 2013 forward Brandon Parrish back on Sep. 21, the Horned Frogs landed their most coveted prospect to date as 6-foot-10 center Karviar Shepherd pledged on Monday night.
Johnson’s ability to land Shepherd is a huge pick-up for the TCU program moving forward. As the Horned Frogs prepare for their first season within the Big 12 Conference in 2012-13, expectations will take some time to improve.
However, the addition of both Parrish and Shepherd certainly brighten things. Parrish is labeled at No. 140 overall by Rivals, but Shepherd will undoubtedly be the crown jewel of the Horned Frogs’ 2013 class. ESPN lists the big man at No. 46 nationally, while Rivals pins him at No. 43.
After narrowing his lists to five, Shepherd had intended on visiting Kansas this upcoming weekend, but that can now be scratched off his to-do list. The center also took a visit to Texas A&M during the weekend of Sep. 29. In addition, Texas and Oklahoma had been the other remaining finalists for Shepherd.
The fact that Johnson was able whisk one of the Horned Frogs’ top targets away from some of the top rivals in the league is simply incredible. An original native of Dallas, Texas, Shepherd currently attends Prime Prep Academy (TX). He ran with the Urban DFW program during his time on the AAU circuit.
