The Georgetown Hoyas have put themselves into position to win the Big East regular season title.

However, it is not going to be easy.

After overcoming some poor offensive play this season, the Hoyas sit atop the Big East standing in a tie with several other teams.

As of now there are six teams separated by just one loss in the conference standings. The Hoyas, Marquette Golden Eagles and Syracuse Orangemen all sit atop of the standings with an 8-3 record, while the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Pittsburgh Panthers and Louisville Cardinals all are knotted with 8-4 marks.

The Hoyas play a rare Friday night ESPN game this evening against the Cincinnati Bearcats, which puts two of the stingiest defenses in the Big East against each other.

For the Hoyas winning the game it will be about scoring enough points. Obviously, against the Bearcats that is always the opponent’s priority because their defense is so good. However, it is really an emphasis for Georgetown because of their offensive woes earlier in the season and Hoyas head coach John Thompson III never knows if that team will rear its ugly head once again.

Not only will the Hoyas feel different because it is a rare Friday night game, but because they will be sporting the new Air Jordan XX’s.

The shoes are all black, with navy blue soles and zip up to the high ankle area. They are quite spiffy and Thompson III is hoping that the new kicks give Big East Player of the Year Candidate, Otto Porter Jr., any boost he needs to defeat the Bearcats.

One thing is for sure if the Hoyas win, they will be alone in first place.

Even if it is only for a half a day until the rest of the conference plays tomorrow.
