LSU Tigers’ Johnny O’Bryant III and Jarrell Martin Are Key

Dak Dillon-USA TODAY Sports

The LSU Tigers ended the 2012-13 season with a loss to the Florida Gators in the SEC tournament. The Tigers probably feel ignored by the NIT selection committee because they clearly deserved a bid in the tournament. However, next year LSU will be one of the more dangerous teams in the SEC.

The Tigers are set to have one of the best rosters in the entire SEC. Johnny O’Bryant III is a future NBA player and could have gone to the NBA this season. He was second in the SEC in double-doubles last season behind Tennessee’s Jarnell Stokes and can command the paint better than a lot of the top big men in the country.

In addition to O’Bryant, local five-star recruit Jarrell Martin has signed with the Tigers and should make an immediate impact. He is the type of player that can turn a team around, and LSU is a decent team which means they will become an SEC title contender. The duo should be the second most dangerous in the SEC; O’Bryant and Martin are not as experienced as Tennessee’s Stokes and Jeronne Maymon. These two players will transform the Tigers into one of the SEC teams that could jump out and win the SEC tournament at the end of the season, like the Ole Miss Rebels did this year.

LSU has one of the best post set ups in the entire country and will command the paint. Every SEC team should be worried about the Tigers’ talented big men next season. Expect LSU to come out strong and compete in this conference.
