Jerome Seagears’ Time at Auburn Lasts a Month; Former Rutgers Guard to Transfer Again

Brad Penner-USA Today Sports

Following that whole Mike Rice – player abuse thing at Rutgers, many members of the Scarlet Knights’ basketball program opted to leave — which certainly comes as no real surprise given its severity.

With two years of eligibility still remaining, Jerome Seagears was among them. Seagears wanted a fresh start and he appeared set on finding that challenge at Auburn. However, after one month with the Tigers, Seagears is on the move once again.

The amount of transfers in college basketball has continuously been on the rise over the past few years, but it’s more than rare for a player to do so twice, let alone in the same off-season. Seagears will not suit up for Auburn in the future however, and he has decided to look elsewhere as the calendar nears mid-June.

According to reports, Seagears is aiming to return closer to his Maryland-home, so it will be interesting to see what schools in that area will be targeting the 6-foot-1 guard. Seagears is a unique talent and he can certainly be a good addition for someone in the coming years. He will likely have to sit out the 2013-14 season barring a waiver per NCAA rules on transfers, but he is coming off a year in which he averaged 6.5 points and 2.6 assists per game.

Schools in the Maryland-area looking to land a late addition should be on the short list for Seagears and if he can find a good fit, this could be a situation for the better down the line.
