The first month of the college basketball season has continuously evolved over the course of the past few years. Numerous early-season tournaments and events have created big-time match-ups with increasingly huge opportunities in terms of non-conference resume builders.

Well, the 2K Sports Classic is no different and this year’s field should undoubtedly provide some early season excitement in beautiful Madison Square Garden prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. On one side of the bracket, the Washington Huskies will square off against the Indiana Hoosiers, while the second semifinal match-up will pin two, former Big East Conference rivals up against each other as the UConn Huskies and Boston College Eagles will hit the hardwood.

Ironically enough, after this summer’s realignment effects, the Huskies were forced into the newly named American Athletic Conference, subsequently setting up a contest here in 2013 that includes two teams who were one-time rivals, yet neither remain a member of the conference that they called home for so long. The Eagles have been a member of the ACC for a number of years now.

While Boston College continues to rebuild under head coach Steve Donahue, the Eagles should be improved, but so too is a UConn squad that is entering its second season under the guidance of Kevin Ollie. UConn should have the upper hand in this contest, but the Eagles may be able to surprise their former rival early on.

Regardless, this should be a good semifinal match-up between two New England schools in the hustle and bustle that is New York City.
