Maryland Terrapins Could Be Surprise Team In ACC In Upcoming Season

Maryland Terrapins

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The Maryland Terrapins will be losing one of their best players in Alex Len. Not to mention, they did not even manage to make the NCAA tournament last year. However, the Terrapins could still be a surprise team in ACC in the 2013-14 college basketball season.

For this to happen, Dez Wells will have to be even better than he was last year, where he averaged 13.1 points per game, three assists per game and 4.9 rebounds per game.

The incoming freshmen will also have to make an impact and it would be great if other players could emerge on the team.

The ACC will be packed with talented teams, which includes the usual powerhouses of Duke and North Carolina. One more powerhouse team will be joining the conference in Syracuse, along with two other Big East teams. The ACC will not be an easy conference to play in to say the least, but enough pieces are coming back for Maryland to make some noise.

With that said, the Terrapins are losing some talent and they did finish seven games back in the conference standings this past season. Another season like that will surprise no one and would be a disappointing year for this team.

Maryland must get off to a fast start and Wells has to come up big all season long, whether that be in ACC play or non-conference play. There is enough talent on this team for the Terps to succeed. However, it will not be easy and they will have to somewhat overachieve in the 2013-14 season for them to upset some teams.
