Oklahoma State Cowboys Not the Favorites In the Big 12?

Marcus Smart coming back for his sophomore season should have made the Oklahoma State Cowboys the team to beat in the Big 12 in the 2013-14 college basketball season. Unfortunately, it is not looking like that will be the case.

The season hasn’t even started yet, so the Cowboys really could be the team to beat once we see if they have improved and once we see how good Andrew Wiggins and the Kansas Jayhawks are.

However, ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla has the Jayhawks ranked over the Cowboys in a recent power ranking. I am sure this is the popular pick and I guess it makes sense since Kansas seems to win the conference title every single year no matter what the circumstance.

Wiggins has been getting so much hype and he is supposed to be the best player since LeBron James, or something like that. If Wiggins is everything people are saying he is, Kansas will win the Big 12 once again.

It is important to note that Oklahoma State is returning three players who averaged 14 or more points per game last season. These three players have proven their worth and they are not the only good ones on the team.

However, expectations apparently mean everything nowadays, so Kansas will likely enter the season with a higher ranking than Oklahoma State and it will likely enter the season by being the team to beat in the Big 12. That is fine, but the Jayhawks cannot take the Cowboys lightly because they have the talent and experience to win a national championship, whereas Kansas only has that talent thing–lost entire starting five from last year’s team.
